Some distressful news from one of our most important resource centers for LGBTQ and sex-positive people here in Chicago.  Howard Brown Health Center is in financial trouble.  They need to raise $500,000 and are doing so in 50 days.

Here’s a message from one of the staff at Howard Brown:

Please help keep our doors open! Howard Brown Health Center has been an institution in Chicago’s LGBT community since 1974 and would suffer a devastating loss if we had to close down because of the mistakes of previous executive staff. HBHC has always been about the community we serve and the dedicated staff on the ground. We’re the ones who will suffer if we don’t step up.

Even $5 will help us toward our goal. If you or someone you know has received services including: medical care- even for uninsured patients; compassionate care from experts in HIV/AIDS; counseling; case management; support groups for violence recovery, substance abuse/addiction and more; homeless/runaway youth services; GED diploma tutoring; community outreach and education; HIV/STD prevention and testing; breast and cervical cancer screening and care; support for aging LGBT members of our community (a much-needed and rare resource). Our research department has had an enormously significant effect on what we know about HIV/AIDS transmission/prevention/long-term effects and LGBT behavioral and clinical care in general.  If that isn’t enough for you, do it to help me keep my job! JK. sort of. Thank you for reading and please re-post this story:

In honor of Howard Brown and the support it’s given to countless people, they are launching 50 Stories in 50 Days.  Here’s one of the stories by Beto:
